Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities on top of the casino, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
